The subject I am continuing with is proving to be very interesting and thought provoking as criteria is considered in the selection and acquisition of resources for a school library. This leads to a library no longer being a place to keep text materials but goes further to resourcing online/IT/digital components as well. I wonder what the librarian can do to keep hold of these and manage them. What happens if a website is accessed that provides good information for use in a classroom but then it "disappears"? There is another task for the TL - to keep track of resources keep in cyber space. I hope at the end of the study I get to cope with all of these problems!

The Challenge Continues
The course I started continues to be at the forefront of my thinking...day and night. I will be pleased to have the first assignment over by next week so I no longer dream of APA referencing, digital resources or electricity. I have put one subject on hold until next session as trying to fit in the study between family life and the kinder is all a bit difficult.

Librarians
All of the readng and my contact with a school library has made me realise the enormity of the job librarians have to do. It is not about covering books (which I love to do) and shelving them. Nor is it about planning and implementing library lessons incorporating children's literature. Not that I am really that naive to have thought those tasks completely filled the day. I walk into my children's school library, where the staff have very kindly let me have some time, and see piles of books, watch children pile in to find out information and notice the networking components piled up. There is reshelving as the staff find better ways for the children to browse for reading materials.

Libraries
All of the information about library collections and resources etc. makes me reflect on my own experience in school libraries. I don't think I went too far from the fiction section of my Primary School library after I discovered Laura Ingalls-Wilder. I thought our library teacher was amazing. Looking back I think she was very hip in the '70's with the flowing clothes and long hair. I loved the library cards. And when you reached year 5 you had access to 2 books at a time as well as being able to help the teacher out! Tech school provided a wider range of reading material that introduced a whole new world including Judy Blume. Non-fiction information was gathered from the World Books. Computer searches were non-existent.
